Chas, his brother and sister live in Australia. Their parents have adopted Joe, a half-caste Aboriginal. Chas and Joe share a strong bond. Joe dies young. Although heart-broken, Chas gets on with his life; he becomes a jackaroo (cowboy) and farmhand on a large station.
One day he meets buffalo hunters and joins them. After a couple of years he travels to Indonesia with a Dutch friend. He starts building houses and sells the horns and hides.
Although successful, the achievement doesn t give him fulfilment. He starts a new challenge and makes a lot of money. He then meets a beautiful woman, marries her and has children.
One day World War II breaks out. The Japanese soldiers capture Chas and his two sons. Chas has become an old man now, and he is still thinking of his brother Joe.
