Why not ring that supernatural romantic bell just one more time! Forlorn Londoner Spring had a gorgeous fling with Neapolitan ladykiller Caldo in the city of lights and love during the ’68 Events of May and on a wild impulse before reluctantly parting for a future normal family life they made a fantastic deal t’meet in memory again–Caldo figured in a decade but Spring got’r way and in a dozen years’t was. The day and hour arrived and Caldo with his natural paisano pizzazz couldn’t help but show up at the Joffre Monument with a dramatic suspenseful surprise–And with frightened excitement they touched and hugged and kissed with such crazy passion they spooked the pidgeon-pigeons and themselves into a roarin flyin flutter and y’d think the nearby Eiffel Tower had just taken off for outer space–Y’betcha they were in for a magic-realism take-off. And after checkin into the same budget Hotel Montparnasse and rushin t’do their fabulous thing they eventually fly off–and I mean fly!–t’carouse around the street-lined piles of garbage left by the stupido on-strike-workers demonstratin their solidarity with the students–and they skimmed across the Seine t’have another nostalgic pickin at the street-stacked vegetable crates of the still-undemolished city-heart market of Les Halles…and from the colorful charm of this “ventre de Paris”they swooped over to the Moulin Rouged red lights of Place Pigalle…t’have another Pernod Anise…and then soared up the steep side of Monmartre t’reach the peaked heights of the Byzantine domes of the Sacre-Coeur and have a breathtakin panoramic view of–Hey!?–Where in hell has that bloody Eiffel Tower gotten to?!…O, well…the next sultry day while on the rompin fly again–and I mean fly!–and cuttin student-riot cobblestoned corners they spot Odile–then Mark!…on their storefront-reflection radar and recognize’m for another pair of hapless big-city loners cruisin bistros and bars lookin for more than a one-nighter to share life with. So Caldo and Spring jump at the fancy idea of trackin’m right thru their storytellin tears of joy and laughter and tears of sadness not only t’cast spells t’keep’m outa trouble in the nightlife hubbub of the Latin Quarter’s battlin politico-philosophical opinions and theories but t’enchant’m into the lovin arms of one another…
